Flea Bites On Humans

What do fleas bites on humans look like? Sometime they bite you and are gone before you realize it. Now you’re left with itching like there is no tomorrow and scratching like crazy. Have you ever noticed your dog scratching like crazy, could be a sign that fleas have invaded.

Usually by the time you get the fleas, the problem is magnified.
Flea bites are small, but the more bites we get the more our health and immune system struggles. Flea bites have been known to start plagues. I am not trying to scare you but it is best not to let it get out of control.

You can see above in the Pictures that fleas can inflict some nasty bite on humans. Flea bites on humans is not all that uncommon. Flea bites are the most common form of insect bites that are experienced not only by the animals but human beings as well

fleas can be found on animals with some patience.
Fleas always move forward when in the hair of animals. You can catch them but you do have to have patience. We know flea bites on humans can be irritating, and we know flea bites on dogs are irritating as well. the best treatment for flea bites is to take some Calahist from your local drug store and rub on the area where the bites are. This will keep the itching down and help you not scratch and irritate the problem.

If the area where the bites are won't go away, consult your doctor
Flea treatment
I would also consult a pest control company about the problem if the problem doesn't respond to any of the home remedy's you try and use.

  2. One thing you can do is to check out this blog post http://fleas-success.blogspot.com/2008/09/how-to-get-rid-of-fleas.html
leave out the part about pets and you should be ok. It is not impossible to get rid of fleas in a do it yourself situation. It just akes a lot of time and follow up

  4. last year I was talked into purchasing the 3 month flea & tick solution. During the second month our dogs contacted fleas. Our vet told us that although they are sold as 3 month we should only purchase 1 month solutions. Over this weekend we found 3 fleas on one of our dogs their monthly solution isn't due until 07/01/09. Now what?

  5. basically the chemical has a 3 month life span and will continue to work for a good while, one thing you can do is bath your pet more frequently and also do follow up in treatments. I have some good information on here in how to get rid of fleas here is one of the links below.

  7. Fleas in the carpet can be killed using 20 mule team from the grocery store. It is found in the laundry detergent asle. It is borax and can be heavly sprinkled on the carpet and vaccummed up the next day. the pets should be taken out of the house and treated also.

  8. ugh.. i slept on a friends couch the other night and woke up itching. from the research that i've done, it looks like i have flea bites on my arms and hands. the worst part is that they got me on my waistline and at the top of my butt crack. it is one of the most uncomfortable things that i have ever experienced. i've tried taking benedryl, applied cortizone, and calamine lotion. i've gotten only a little relief. any ideas?? and does anyone know how long this is going to last??

    thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Anonymous As it is true that 20 mule team borax will do what you say, I would not recommend using it as it is a very potent chemical. anytime you sprinkle a chemical on the carpet you are taking a chance especially if it is not diluted down for that purpose. please read the label and abide by it.
    thanks for the comment

  10. Matt flea bites can itch for a while I find if I rub some Calahist or calamine lotion on the bite areas it does bring some relief, you would need to do this every time the itching starts, and refrain from scratching if possible. I also would check out this area http://howtogetridofbedbugs.blogspot.com/2008/12/bedbug-pictures.html the picture area on bedbugs and see if there is a resemblance to the bites. sounds like you have flea bites though. I think I would stay away from that couch for a while.

  11. I need help if anyone has got the solution to get rid of the flea. I have a child and I do not like to use harsh chemicals around him. I need some ideas.:(

    ReplyDelete
  12. There comes a time when you have to make a decision about using chemical in getting rid of fleas. Most chemicals can be used with little exposure to children if you can get them out of the house while the treatment is taking place. I don't think anyone wants to expose their children to chemicals. some times it is chemicals or fleas. It also would depend on how bad the flea infestation is.

  14. We just moved into a house few months ago that we bought and for the first time ever we have fleas..it is very irritating, the itching is driving me crazy, I have bites all over my feet and ankles...I just bought some Calahist today at the drugstore to rub on my bites, I hope this helps and I will be able to sleep tonight.. We have a small dog and have been bathing her every other day and also got some Vectra from the vet to use on the dog...oh, one more thing, I even bought new vacuum (dyson) since I had a old one, almost 9 yrs old and thought this new one would get the fleas out of the carpet a whole lot better....anyway, I'm hoping soon we will be Flea free..otherwise I don;t know what to do??

  16. I received some nice, new-to-me, overstuffed couches from a friend. It seems that they are infested with fleas. I have "bombed" the room 2 times: 1st with an general insecticide; 2nd with a specialty flea one supposed to kill eggs and larvae. Not sure if it worked and worried about spread to rest of house. suggestions? I read that I should get rid of the furniture. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  17. not sure just how long a flea bite will last, maybe a week a lot longer if you scratch them. calahist is good just apply it according to directions.
If you treat the animals or petsandnot the area where they are infested you will get the fleas back on the pet.

  20. If you travel in a dirty semi-truck, as I did for 9 days (had no choise) with some flat-bedders filthy mattress in it - guess what -you may not be aware or it, but the fleas, bed bugs will travel with you in your luggage/hand bags. I am currently battling them with room sprayers, floor and crevace sprays and am putting everything I ever sleep with/near through the washer and dryer. Had this problem back in 1988 and the only solution was to get rid of my two cats. After that, they took a halk-year to finnally get completely rid of. I ironically, I had a beautiful weimeraner (dog) in my new home and never had a problem for 14 years(she sadly died 2 years ago)

Jumping and biting me. I bagged my clothes- threw them away and vacuumed the whole place. Three days later I have small bumps all over my face and Im itching in a few areas where I have applied Cortison-10 plus. DAMN FLEAS!!!

  26. I was combing my dog with the flea comb. I finally found the one flea that was on her. I took my fingers to catch it, and then to kill it. Now I can not find the flea so I am worried it found me. If it was just one flea will it stay on a person or will it die it there were no more.

  27. I have been infested with fleas for months now. I've never been through anything so repulsive & disgusting as this. It's nightmarish. I am currently keeping my 3 cats outdoors. I feel guilty whrn they meow to come in but I look at my lesions and think 'it's me or them. If I walk across the floor or carpet in shorts I immediately have 20 on each leg. I stand over the commode and brush them into the water, watch them try to swim and jump onto each others backs to get to dry land. Then I flush them and watch as they swirl away. Later on, I will sit in my chair with a bottle of half-empty Poland Spring at my side. When I feel something on my face or neck or legs, I hold up a portable mirror to locate the offending flea. I then catch it and drop it into my half-empty bottle of water and then cap it. Sometimes I turn it upside down to catch the few who have struggled to the dry part of the bottle. The whole thing is sick and time-consuming. I have one lesion near my upper thigh which I notice resembles a large pimple, except it has a black flea sized object in the middle. I tried hydroperoxide, neosporin and when it healed, I popped it and a long rubbery pink cone shaped thing (probably the larvae) came out.I am really traumatized, cleaned it out again, started to heal and same material came out. What is it? Has anyone experienced anything like this?

  30. Our 3 cats just got treated with some kind of drops on their skin from the vet...now the fleas are killing us they are no longer plaging the cats! They are eating us alive! My 2 year old and 7 year old are scratching like dogs and have raw places and bites allover them!I have even pulled a few from their scalps! I have washed everything, I have vaccuumed everyday, I have done everything but use a chemical! I dont want the chemicals to hurt my children or pets... I have never had a flea before or seen one or even knew they existed!! Please tell me what a good treatment to use ( spray, bomb, fogger, sprinkle etc) something that wont hurt my children or pets. My kids cant take anymore bites! My 2 year old has scratched his crack raw and his head underneath his hair and has bites allover his legs and everywhere he has skin!Im worried he might have a tapeworm from all the bites? He drinks milk from a sippy 24/7? My 7 year old digs and scratches and cant sleep and cries and has a lot of bites as well... but he listens when I tell him not to scratch. I thought he had a diaper rash... I began to connect the fleas to the itching and scratching and the rash wasnt just under the diaper and then it wasnt just the diaper wearing child...and then I GOT ate up and knew something wasnt right! I need some help please!!! any insight would be appreciated;)

  31. fyi another household remedy for ppl that they can afford is just mixing rubbing alcohol and water and spray everywhere. in the carpets, furniture and it is safe to spray on pets. you will have to spray several times, but it does work. i had a cat with fleas that infested my whole apartment. when you stepped foot in the door fleas were all over your legs. i sprayed all over and on the cat. little by little there were less fleas till they were gone. just make sure to sweep them up and empty vaccume frequently. i mixed mine with 1/3 alcohol and 2/3 water.

  34. Dyson vaccums are great for vaccuming up fleas and their larvae. My cats live in my garage and are infested with flees, I put flea collars on them and I think it attracted the fleas. I'm in such a battle trying to keep the fleas out of my house. My poor daughter isn't even aloud to pet her cats. Today I threw away the rugs i put down for my cats, one last place for them to hide. Now that I did that the fleas with probably move inside. well got to go good luck everyone...

  35. Borax made my dog ill. I got rid of the flea's. Tore the carpet out and put down new floor, plastic sheets on the beds, also the plastic covers on the living room furniture. Also the big problem OUTSIDE spayed the yard with an outside flea spray just for that found at the hardware store. People please don't forget outside, you and your pets can bring them in. Racoons, stray cats and dogs, squirrel's and many other warm blooded things. Those little bugars are hanging on a blade of grass, just waiting for you to walk by.

  38. fleas are a very hard thing to keep under control The best thing is to treat your pet with a solution from the vet office and use a spray to clear the indoor and outdoor area.
Using the monthly treatment from the vet office is good...you may still see a flea on your dog or cat periodically but the solution will stop that flea from reproducing which is really the main concern! flea collars and baths dont really help seeing they dont get into the blood stream the stay on the surface!
after spraying the house you will want to do a major vacuum to pick up all the dead fleas that are now laying around....vacuum 2-3 times a week and if all the steps are followed you should have no fleas!

  39. We have been battling fleas for what feels like forever. The fleas treatments are not working. I treated both my dogs two days ago, and they are still itching. I have done everything I can think of short of calling an exterminator. But my real issue is that I have found them in my daughters HAIR! not one or two, but like 10. I didn't think they could live on people. She even had flea dirt in her hair! Is that normal?

I want to call to get someone in here to get rid of them but I also hear that without the pet in the home you can still drag them in. I don't know if I should spend the money or not. 45. This is very difficult, but when you get bitten try not to scratch. Scratching makes the effects of the bite worse. leave it alone and it will not bother you after a day or so. If it's really annoying you, just rub the area gently.

  48. In the title of this article, The fleas "AFFECT" you, they don't "EFFECT" you. They have an "EFFECT" on you. And believe me, they are having an effect on me. My daughter had 2 cats that I got rid of because she wouldn't take care of them. Now I have fleas everywhere. Everytime I turn aound there is one crawling on me. If I had known it was going to come to this, I would have never allowed the cats in the first place. Cats belong in a barn where they can catch mice.

  49. Hello sweet people, I have read all your comments, and I wish to comment on some of them. #1 kittens, and long haired cats harbor more than fleas, very commonly they carry fungal spores (AKA ringworm spores)EVEN IF THEY DO NOT HAVE SORES) Ringworm is NOT a worm at all, it is a fungus. You sound like you may be dealing with more than fleas... ringworm can leave you with the most seen circular crusty raised edges, OR can appear as a raised lesion with puss spewing from holes in it. 50% of ringworms (there are 21 varieties)we are having issues with fleas right now, and I do not know where they are coming from. My dogs all live indoors and potty on my back deck which is bleach disinfected daily. Yet I found 3 fleas on the head of my dog who sleeps with me and I have 8 bite marks on my leg

There is one stray cat outside of my apartment on occasion. Can I have fleas in my apartment due to that damn cat? Or from the people that lived here before me? I just moved in a month ago and have gotten flea bites. I know they are fleas because I've seen them, caught them, and killed them. I have bombed several times and I don't even have a pet!!! I vaccuum nonstop. I don't think the bombs are very effective. The eggs just hatch right after you clean it up and the cycle starts all over. FML.

It could be that your flea bites are coming from some where else like at work, friends house or in a car that has fleas in it

  56. For 2 months I've been dealing with bites I have received at night. They began on my stomach and bikini line. Now they are there AND bra line and back. Doctors have said 'folliculitus' and 'fleas'. The exterminator could not find evidence of bedbugs ( I was in Europe this summer). Can they not do a culture and tell for sure? I have bombed the house and I use Advantage on the cats. Web surfing is making me take a look at bird mites. Must find an answer; being eaten alive.....

    ReplyDelete
  57. Usually fleas don't just stick to one area like bikini line, now sure if you go into the woods or some grsses area, but chiggers or red bugs could be the insect. fleas will generally bite around the ankles and move up to some degree.
Bad infestations of fleas will cause them to bite you where ever they can.

  59. Go to a pet store & purchase Asams room fogger. Kills eggs which most foggers do not do. Keep kids out for 4 hours at least. I have no pets. I have had fleas for years. I understand from my Dr. that it is my body chemistry that attracts them. I now take a B12 tablet and garlic tablet with cayenne. Will be changing to different insulin in a couple of weeks. I keep my blood sugar at a decent level. I put vinegar in the rinse when I wash clothes. When I get ready for bed, I spray the floor where I sit at my computer. I put my clothes in a plastic bag and direct a spray into the bag and close it tight immediately. I wear glasses and a mask when I do this. I do not open my windows. My air conditioner brings them in from the outside, so I spray with 3/4 apple cider vinegar 1/4 water around that area. I have more control now than I did when I threw all my clothes away a couple of years ago. I try to cover anything fabric with heavy plastic, or put dryer sheets on them. Every once in awhile I have to throw out my pillows and my bedspread. In many ways it is a life of misery because they are so determined and so insidious.

  63. RAID Flea & EGG killer (it is a purple can) REALLY works!!! Just once or twice a year, usually in the fall for us, kills them. I spray everything down, with the cat outside & windows open, then everything and I do mean everything that can go into the washer gets washed, vaccum everything else. Sometimes it has to be done twice..... speaking of time to shoo the cat out spray down & get the washer going... PS I understand not wanting to use chemicals around children or pets .... however disease carring parasites vs a small dose of "chemical"..... no contest!

  67. Dog went to a boarding kennel for 10 days and came home with fleas! We were unaware of the problem until a week later, when I got bit! The vet gave me Revolution for the dog and cat and a bought a Flea Killer Spray with IGR. Well, it's been over a month of vacumning, laundry, spraying and scratching and I can only hope the little buggers are all dead! It seems that I am the only one who ever got a flea bite...and now every little tickle sends me running for the Off!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Lots of animals get fleas from grooming or sometimes the vet. Once you get fleas it seems like every little itch or tickle makes you look for the critter. you seem to have it under control

    ReplyDelete
  69. Several things I have learned-after vacuuming, you either have to discard the bag right away, or put some type of flea killer inside it. The vet said the best use for the cheap flea collars is to cut it into pieces and suck it up in the vacuum. Otherwise, the fleas can crawl right out of the vacuum. Also, one website I visited said that only a percentage of fleas and eggs are sucked up into the vacuum. When vacuuming, be sure to also use the crevice tool along the baseboards.

There are natural flea killers available. I am going to try Orange Guard, which I bought at my local natural food co-op. It is safe to use around humans and pets. A family member uses Sentry Natural Defense on her animals, and says it works well. They haven't had any problems.

I also read that the pupa can lay dormant for long periods of time, even up to a year, waiting for the right conditions to emerge into an adult flea. That can explain why the person who moved into a new apartment was suddenly faced with a flea infestation.

  71. Fleas can come back at anytime. fleas will leave a mark when they bite you. sounds like something else could be the problem.

  74. I was diagnosed recently with scabies! I don't fit the profile but have sores; like pinmarks almost all over my body! Prior to that- I noticed my 2 small dogs scratching; still do; but I haven't found a flea on them! Will get Revolution and put on them! I have 7 indoor cats and only 1 scratches.
I am allergic to fleas and these fotos of flea bites look like what I have. I itch more at nite and I have nerve pain on the worse arm.
any suggestions? I go to the Dermatologist on Monday.

  76. Wow, reading all these posts has made me very nervous! I have just discovered a flea infestation, starting outside. I have been digging up garden beds. I do not have any pets and have lived flea free in this house for 3 years.....suddenly they are everywhere. I have bombed each room in the house after my boy was bitten around his ankles and have spread 10kg bag of Lime around the garden. that was a week ago and still I went outside this morning and several jumped on my feet outside my front door. Will I ever be able to get rid of them? Please remember I do not have any pets....will they use out blood to breed? It's driving me nuts!!!! Cheers

  77. Fleas do need a blood meal to reproduce.

  79. You might want to check for head lice. If she has fleas in her hair then you should be able to see them. even had lice can be seen you just need to look very close.

  82. Fleas are BAD this year. After being awake all night itching, I think I have discovered help. Take and knee high hose, fill it with Oatmeal, then bathe with it. Let it set on the side of the shower while rinsing then right before getting out take the gooyey hose and spread the milky juice over the itching area. Do not dry it off, let that part air dry and towel off the rest. Keep the hose handy to reuse as needed. Very soothing to the bites and no itch.

  83. Suspend a night-light bulb about 12 inches over a shallow pan of water, mixed with a little dish soap. Do this at night. The fleas jump for the light and drown. Use a flea comb on your pets, stopping every swipe that you get a flea (or many fleas at first). Rub the comb immediately where the flea is, and have a knife ready to crush them on a table. After a while you can get good at it. Bless you all, I hope all of you get answers. You can use Wikipedia to find answers.

  85. I have just moved into a house where the people who own the home just moved and they had cats, and they left out one very important detail, the house has fleas. My 7yr old daughter was ate up with flea bites the 2nd nite here and had a reaction that required medical treatment. Does anyone know if the owners have a legal responsibility for what has happened to us? They have now addmitted that they knew of the problem before renting the home to us. We live in Kansas, Please help, we feel very wronged, and now have medical bills do to their neglect in this matter.

  86. I am not sure about the legal aspect of the owner, but I would think morally he has an obligation, now here is an option if he does not deal with the fleas. hold it out of his rent. and tell him if he wants to go to court you will be glad to do so.
but you need to get the problem fixed right away for the sake of your 7 year old. if you are short on money then check this out.

  91. I have tried almost everything mentioned here. No pets. Flea problems for 10 Years. Chemistry in my blood? Tried many things; did not work. Did purchas an air bed so do not have them in my mattress anymore. They hop on me the instant I step outside and then of course they come with me back into inside. If I could just change my blood chemistry. But I do not know how.

  92. What is the best way to get rid of them? Did the flea bomb and some insecticides. Is this due to weather change?

Have you tried to treat the outside by a professional pest control person?
10 years is a log time to have fleas
